Luba Kotzeva de Diaz

Luba Kotzeva is a Managing Director in the European Energy and Renewables group heading, up the Renewables and Energy Transition vertical, based in London. Luba joined Lazard in 2021, following over 22 years at Rothschild & Co.

Luba has extensive M&A and financial advisory experience and is skilled in providing strategic, transaction, and financing advice to corporate boards, executives, and governments including in funding models for clean energy and de-carbonization projects.

Luba has advised on over $60bn of completed transactions and has significant U.K. Government and other sovereign interface experience. Luba has been focused on the power sector for most of her career and has been a Managing Director since 2014.

At Rothschild & Co, Luba was Global Head for Solar and Nuclear Coverage, in addition to her European coverage responsibilities. Selected experience:

• Advised on M&A and capital raising transactions relating to over 60GW of power capacity, of which more than 75% was clean power generation, in addition to regulated utilities and network deals;
• International negotiation, communication, influence, shareholder and stakeholder management skills, coupled with robust commercial and financial judgement;
• Experience across solar, onshore and offshore wind, batteries, gas, biomass, nuclear, networks, water, retail, carbon capture, hydrogen and e-mobility;
• Maintains an active dialogue with pension funds, infrastructure and sovereign funds as well as corporates (large-cap utilities, oil majors, developers, IPPs) providing sector market intelligence and insights.

During her early career, Luba worked in the healthcare sector and advised on multiple care sector disposals and provided M&A advice to pharmaceutical and biotech companies.

Luba graduated with joint honors in Economics and Law from the University of Durham.
