On April 14, one floor above The Edge, the highest outdoor sky deck in the Western Hemisphere, Lazard hosted its inaugural Climate and Energy Transition Conference.

The all-day event – attended by more than 150 corporate leaders, investors, policymakers and economists – provided a unique forum to discuss the financial impacts, opportunities and risks of climate change and the energy transition.

Peter Orszag, Chief Executive Officer of Lazard Financial Advisory, kicked-off the event and delivered the opening remarks.

I would like to highlight the really powerful opportunity that the United States and Europe have together to drive the energy transition as a super-bloc... We could have a 'Brussels-Effect' squared or to the third power or fifth power if the U.S. and EU were to get together to drive the energy transition in a super-bloc.

The event included discussions on the U.S. government’s involvement in energy transition; a presentation by Zachery Halem, Director of the Lazard Climate Center, on a recent co-authored analysis of corporate climate messaging and its financial impacts; a review of the key findings from Lazard’s new 2023 LCOE+ Report; panel discussions on how different markets currently view the energy landscape; and two fireside chats.

George Bilicic, Vice Chairman and Global Head of Power, Energy & Infrastructure at Lazard, interviewed Tom Linebarger, Executive Chairman of Cummins.

The keynote panel, “How is the U.S. Government Enabling the Energy Transition and Economic Growth?” saw participants discussing the impact of the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act on climate change, as well as the biggest hinderances in the clean energy transition effort.

The conference also featured panels focused on how public and private markets view energy transition and ESG, a conversation on the value of utilizing diverse energy sources, as well as a discussion on whether there is a “Silver Bullet” solution for the energy transition.
