"Institutional activists are often drawn to companies in sectors in flux or prone to disruption,” Christopher said, citing pandemic-driven shifts in consumer behavior, supply-chain issues, and labor challenges as key factors driving scrutiny in the consumer-discretionary space.

Private equity firms could further amplify this trend as they return to the market, equipped with substantial capital reserves.
