On February 11, The Washington Post published an oped authored by Lazard CEO and Chairman Peter Orszag, "The Pentagon and Silicon Valley need to be friends again," discussing the critical role artificial intelligence is playing in modern warfare and the partnership needed between Silicon Valley and the U.S. government to maintain America's military edge.

Peter outlines that Silicon Valley, a global center for advanced technology and innovation in California, was established with substantial U.S. government support and since then, many kinds of technology have proved to be pivotal for the United States military.

However, with the tech industry's reluctance to collaborate with the military paired with the U.S. government’s cumbersome procurement process and insufficient funding, maintaining the country’s technological superiority in defense sectors could become increasingly challenging. He argues that now is the time for Silicon Valley and the government to close the divide between them in order to ensure national security and maintain global standing in the face of evolving threats.
