Managing Director
Ali Syed is a Managing Director and Head of Sovereign Wealth Fund and Pension Fund Coverage in the Capital Solutions Group at Lazard.
Ali provides strategic coverage and advisory services to sovereign wealth funds and pension funds in the Middle East, Asia, and North America. He also spends a significant portion of his time with sovereign wealth fund and pension fund portfolio companies as well as with global corporates seeking a financial or strategic solution from these investors.
Most recently, Ali was a Managing Director and Head of the Sovereign Wealth Fund and Pension Fund Advisory Business at Citi, where he was an advisor to this client segment for over a decade. Prior to rejoining Citi, Ali was based in Riyadh with Saudi Arabia-based Samba Financial Group, one of the Middle East’s largest financial institutions, where he was part of the firm’s principal direct investments and private equity team. Before his tenure at Samba, Ali worked as an Investment Analyst at Vestry Capital Management, a New York-based TMT focused long-short fundamental investment equity hedge fund. Ali began his career at Citi as a member of the firm’s Global Healthcare Investment Banking Group in New York and in London.
Ali graduated with distinction from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. In addition to the US, he has lived in Abu Dhabi, London and Riyadh. Ali is a dual citizen of the US and UK.
