Dr. José Antonio González Anaya has been a Senior Advisor at Lazard since 2020, supporting the Sovereign Advisory Group.

Before joining Lazard, he served as the Secretary (Minister) of Finance and Public Credit of Mexico from November 2017 to November 2018. Prior to this role, Dr. González Anaya was Chief Executive Officer and Director General at Petroleos Mexicanos (PEMEX), assuming the role in February 2016.

From December 2012 - the beginning of President Enrique Peña Nieto's administration - until February 2016 he was Director General of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS). Between 2003 and 2012, he held various posts at the Ministry of Finance, most recently as Undersecretary of Income.

From 1996 to 2000, Dr. González Anaya worked as a Senior Economist at the World Bank, where he was also the Head of the Latin America research program. Additionally, he was a professor and researcher at Stanford University during this period.

Dr. González Anaya holds a Bachelor's Degrees in Economics and Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), as well as a Master's Degree and PhD in Economics from Harvard University.

A native Spanish speaker, Dr. González Anaya is also fluent in English.
