William Sembo
Senior Advisor
William (Bill) G. Sembo was engaged by Lazard in 2019 as a Senior Advisor principally assisting the Firm’s global efforts in the power, energy and infrastructure sectors.
Mr. Sembo’s areas of activity include mergers & acquisitions, activism and traditional takeover defense, capital structure advice, capital-raising (of all types), and special committee and other board advisory roles.
Mr. Sembo’s extensive business career spans almost 50 years. Previously, he was a Vice Chairman and Managing Director and a senior partner of RBC Capital Markets’ global energy practice, the investment banking division of the Royal Bank of Canada (27 years). Prior thereto, Mr. Sembo was with The Toronto-Dominion Bank’s Energy and National Accounts division in a senior corporate finance role for several years. Mr. Sembo started his full-time career in 1975 with an international oil & gas, mining and industrial services company, Asamera Inc. He held progressively senior roles within the Company, corporate planning, project development, and financial controls and budgeting.
Mr. Sembo has served on multiple Canadian corporation boards of directors including in the role of board Chair.
In 2022, Mr. Sembo was appointed a member of the Order of Canada and was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Platinum Jubilee Medal in recognition of his accomplishments in the business community and for his public service.
Mr. Sembo is an Economics graduate of the University of Calgary.
