William Murdock is Director and Head of the Special Opportunities Group at Lazard, based in New York.

William leads a highly selective, multidisciplinary advisory team that works closely with the CEO and senior leadership on various strategic initiatives, including the financial analysis underpinning our long-term growth plan, Lazard 2030. As a key leader in our corporate strategy efforts, William and his team work on aligning our Lazard 2030 strategy with global, firm-wide activities. 

William has extensive experience in research, analytics, and data science, and as a published author. Prior to joining Lazard, William served as a policy advisor to U.S. Senator Chris Murphy, a research analyst at the Education Innovation Laboratory at Harvard University, and a research assistant at the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. He has more than a decade of experience working with senior leaders across public companies, educational institutions, and public sector organizations on research, analytics, and data‑driven strategy.

William serves on the board of the Broome Street Academy Charter High School. He holds a B.S. from the University of Michigan and a Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University.
