Shanu, New York
Shanu is Senior Vice President at Lazard Asset Management, New York
How did you come to join Lazard?
I had worked in finance for most of my career, across investment banking, corporate development and investment management. I’m passionate about climate change and was looking to make sustainability my core professional focus.
I was in a climate technology fellowship with other entrepreneurs, investors and researchers when I heard about an opportunity at Lazard that focused on the intersection of climate and investing – ideal for me. I got in touch and was accepted.
What is the most exciting and rewarding part of your job?
I really enjoy being able to follow new sectors and companies at the forefront of sustainability and the global energy transition. These are complex, nuanced and rapidly evolving issues. Navigating suitable investment opportunities is both intellectually challenging and rewarding. I believe the global transition to a net-zero economy will be one of the most transformative events of my lifetime.
What advice would you share with someone considering a career at Lazard?
Those that succeed here have high integrity, intellectual curiosity, a strong work ethic and a commitment to delivering favorable outcomes for clients. Keep learning and meticulously researching to seek out the best answers.
What is unique about Lazard?
Lazard has an open-door policy which allows for a unique level of collaboration across seniority levels and between departments. This leads to a high degree of knowledge sharing that I have not previously seen at large financial institutions.
